Social Media Is Feeding Us Nutrition Misinformation

A new report sheds light on the “tidal wave of nutrition misinformation” circulating on social media platforms, distorting public understanding of healthy diets. With Musk’s “X” leading the charge, this flood of misleading content can have serious consequences, from undermining health to encouraging poor dietary choices. The report highlights the dangers of “influencers” pushing unfounded claims, with experts warning that “social media is driving a lot of confusion and poor decision-making”. For those committed to veganism, this trend is particularly concerning as it dilutes genuine evidence supporting plant-based diets, making it harder for people to navigate through the noise.

Can Europe Rewild 25% of Its Land Before Time Runs Out On Humanity?

New research suggests that nearly 25% of Europe holds the potential to become thriving wildlife habitats, but much of this land isn’t protected. From Norway’s Arctic tundra to Spain’s Sierra Nevada, 1.2 million square kilometers meet the criteria for rewilding. However, “we’re racing against time,” warns Miguel Araújo, as climate change threatens even these prime areas. For vegans especially, supporting rewilding efforts aligns with the broader philosophy to protect ecosystems and the animals that rely on them.

Mission Barns Repurposes Pharma Bioreactors for Cultivated Meats

Mission Barns is taking a bold step by repurposing pharma-grade bioreactors for large-scale cultivated meat production. These bioreactors, typically used in drug manufacturing, are now being adapted to address the needs of cultivated meat—a move that could revolutionize the industry. The company’s pivot is driven by the potential to scale production more efficiently and cost-effectively. A key insight: “This approach could drastically reduce costs and speed up the development process”. For plant-based advocates, this innovation could help bridge the gap between lab-grown and plant-based foods, making cruelty-free options more accessible.

Scotland’s Plan to Protect Marine Habitats: A Long Overdue Move

The Scottish government is proposing bans on trawling and dredging across 20 vulnerable marine protected areas (MPAs), a step campaigners call “very overdue, but welcome.” While the consultation could help Scotland inch closer to its 30% by 2030 conservation target, critics note the nation still lags behind England in protecting its marine ecosystems. Phil Taylor of Open Seas points out the “government’s job is only half-done,” urging further protections for Scotland’s inshore MPAs.

Musk is an idiot. It’s incredibly frustrating to watch influential people brush off the climate crisis like it’s no big deal. Instead of pushing for real solutions—like renewable energy or reforestation—they’re wasting time on empty talk. We need leaders who are serious about taking action, not just spinning their wheels in meaningless debates.
